168 Preussen: Standarte des Ulanen-Regiments Prinz August von Württemberg (posensches) Nr. 10.
RegimentalStandard for the Ulan Regiment Prinz August of Wurttemberg (Posen)Nr. 10. Flagpattern M/1860 introduced on 18 January 1861 and maintained until1918. This specimen remained in the headquarters of the CommandingGeneral of the III Army Corp in Berlin until 1939. Secured withnetting in order to prevent further damage/rips, the flag measures 42x 42 cm. The field is black material and features white rays and anorange background in the center with an embroidered Prussian eagle ofsilk and bullion thread. Each corner features embroidered cypher"FWR" in gold bullion. Three edges feature bullion fringe. Theflag is attached to the original staff with original attachmentnails. Staff is cut below the regimental ring which has "U.R.10"engraved in the metal. The finial features a 1870 Grand Cross of theIron cross. Flag comes complete with original carrying pouch andmetal end cap with applied Grand Cross of the Iron Cross thatincludes a crowned cypher "FR". Dueto their delicate construction of thin silk and heavy gold and silverbullion, the cloth of the flags started showing rips and tears overtime. In order to prevent further damage, the flags were reinforcedwith a "fish net" sewn directly to the silk. Despiteit's fragile construction, the standard being offered for sale isin relatively goog condition and ready for display.
