315 Barometer from the Period of the French Revolution.

  Extremely finely crafted case made of sculpted wood with original gilding and colored frame. The barometer flanked by two lictor bundles crowned with the Phrygian cap, above them crossed tricolors. The whole is surmounted by a vase with flower garlands hanging out. At the bottom laurel branches. The display panel with inscriptions in French and maker's signature " Germain / Paris" under glass.

According to the consignor, this piece was originally owned by Camille Desmoulin, originally one of the leaders of the French Revolution and a close companion of Danton. He, along with many other early revolutionaries, fell victim to the Committee of Public Safety's "reign of terror" and was executed on the scaffold in 1794.

Important and unusual historical piece of high quality craftsmanship.
