60 Gold Life Saving Medal from the Period of the French Revolution.

é Gold medal. On the obverse the personification of Liberté (Liberty), the spear crowned with Phrygian cap (Jacobin cap). Surrounded by plastic oak wreath. On the base stamped tailor's mark: "GATT.". The reverse with award engraving:

"DÉPARTEMENT SEINE ET OISE / RÉCOMPENSE NATIONALE / MÉDAILLE DONNÉ AU CITOIEN / LÉNART DE VERSAILLES / LE 2 THERMIDOR AN 5 REP.C / POUR AVOIR SAUVÉ DEUX CITOIENS / QUI SE NOYAIT"

(Department of Seine et Oise / National award / medal awarded to the citizen / Lénart of Versailles / on the 2nd Thermidor year 5 of the Republic / for having saved two citizens / from drowning /).

Diameter: 37 mm. 

Exceptionally rare, probably unique live saving medal. To my knowledge, no other comparable specimen in gold is known.
