312 Double lance shoe for mounted cavalry.

  Double lance shoe for mounted soldiers in almost mint condition. Iron stirrup with roughened tread and central oval cutout. Strap opening on the semi-circular curved upper side for fastening to the saddle, as well as on the lower flattened area of the outer side for tying in the lance shoes. The two shoes are attached to the outside of the stirrup at two oval recesses by means of leather straps running around the shoe, which are additionally secured by vertically attached leather strips and seams. The shoe itself is open at the bottom and is made of double leather. The shoes are each marked LOH SÖHNE BERLIN, with the iron stirrup on the bottom bearing the maker's mark SCHMÖLE & Co. MENDEN.

From the Prussian regulations, the following can be seen in this regard. No. 113 "New sample of the lance strap and introduction of a double lance shoe on the left stirrup for the Uhlans. B.3. a regulation of the iron stock is to be carried out to the effect that an equal number of simple lance shoes is to be attributed in place of the contoured double lance shoes. As far as lance shoes becoming surplus due to the change are not used to supplement the iron stock for reserve regiments, they can either be left to the cavalry regiments against attribution of other pieces of equipment to the iron stock, or they are to be transferred to the clothing office for occasional sale. The account conversion is to be based on the amount of 25 Pf. for the lance shoe. The § 194 (regulates the necessity of the double lance shoe) In it is to be inferred that in a firefight on foot, after dismounting in a concealed place. The lances of the comrades fighting on foot are taken over by other mounted soldiers belonging to the escadron during the engagement and are kept in the double lance shoe until the lance can be taken up again by the dismounted man.

Due to its short service life, the double lance shoe is an absolute rarity in the field of cavalry equipment. Since the double lance shoe does not have any military acceptance stamps, it can be assumed that it is a sample piece with regard to military testing.
