202 Sweden: Order of the Amaranth, embroidered Grand Cross Breast Star, late 18th century.

Breast Star. Silver lantern and sequins, the rays between the cross angles gilded. The particularly arched medallion in fine silver embroidery in gilt on a background of blue moiré silk. Completely preserved cover paper on the reverse with sewn-on black silk loops for sewing the breast star onto the coat or uniform.

The Order of the Amaranth, also known as the Order of the Amarante, was a Swedish knightly order. The founder was Queen Christina of Sweden in 1653. The original order of knighthood changed after the death of the founder into a semi-official order with masonic character, which is awarded until today in Sweden and enjoys high social reputation. This is expressed not least by the imposing palace of the order in Stockholm. Members of the royal house always belonged to the knights of the order, so for example the present Swedish crown princess Victoria received the Amaranthen - Order on her 16th birthday.

Beautiful breast star in finest embroidery quality and fantastic condition. Very rare in this early version.
