The Battle of Kunersdorf took place during the Seven Years War on August 12, 1759 between a Russian-Austrian and Prussian army and ended with a defeat of Frederick the Great.

While Prussian enamel boxes celebrating the battles of Frederick the Great are regularly found in collections and on the market, those of Russian provenance are of exceptionally great rarity.

The example offered here is the first that we have been able to offer at one of our auctions so far. It is characterized not only by its rarity, but also by the exceptionally beautiful quality of the enamel painting and the very good state of preservation, especially considering its age.
