16 Kingdom of Wuerttemberg: Commemorative Badge of King Charles, 1891 (Adjutant's Badge).

Silver, the crowned cipher "K" of King Charles gilt. On the bandeau the king's date of death "6 Octb. 1891". Reverse fitted with pin for wearing. On the reverse the maker's mark of the court jeweller "FOEHR" and silver mark 900, crown and crescent.

This badge of honour, founded by King Wilhelm II on 24.12.1891, was primarily awarded to the former adjutants and high court officials of King Karl of Württemberg.

Approximately 30  "golden" badges of honour were awarded. The complete list of the recipients can be found in: Ulrich Klein and Albert Raff: Die Württembergischen Medaillen von 1864 - 1933, Stuttgart 2010, p. 516 f.

Subaltern court servants and officials received the decoration in silver.

The example offered here was most probably awarded to the Hofjägermeister Freiherrn (Baron) von Neurath. It comes from the estate of the former German ambassador in Italy Hans-Georg von Mackensen, who was married to Winifred Freiin von Neurath, a descendant of the recipient (cf. the diplomatic passports and documents in the catalogue section Reichsaussenministerium - Diplomatisches Korps - 3. Reich).

Splendid decoration in especially beautiful quality and interesting with this provenance.

One of the rarest decorations of the Kingdom of Württemberg.
