74 Golden Close Combat Clasp, type 2 produced by the company C.E. Junker, Berlin
Gold Close Combat Clasp, type 2 produced by the company C.E. Junker, Berlin.
Fire gilded tombac version with finely polished high points that show only minor wear or age. Reverse features round recessed base for the catch, wide gilded pin and anodized magnetic backplate attached with single rivet. Above it the typical characteristical carrying hook.
The second type of the Gold Close Combat Clasp was presented for the first time by Reichsfuhrer-SS Heinrich Himmler on 12 December 1944 in the City Hall of Ulm to 83 soldiers.
The vast majority of recipients of the Gold Close Combat Clasp wore the everyday version made of zinc, which is the primary reason for some of the tombac examples being found today in very good condition.
Our piece has been worn by the recipient but still has 95% of it's original gilding and is in outstanding condition.
Since the Gold Combat Clasp was awarded only for personal valor with a minimum of 50 close combat days it was held in the highest esteem by all soldiers. It is representing the highest Infantry award.
A superb example of this prestigious award in excellent condition.
One of the few originals and of outstanding rarity.
