The medal offered here is an original example that has been awarded and truly worn.
Only a small number of the 1st grade crosses were actually awarded, as only very few SS member fulfilled the requirements for the award.
The SS Service Award could only be awarded to members of the SS Verfügungstruppe, the SS Totenkopfverbände and the SS Junkerschulen. In fact, however, some members of these organisations received the general NSDAP service award.
From 1940 onwards, service in the Wehrmacht and the police was no longer taken into account for the SS - Service - Award .
The 1st and 2nd degrees were no longer awarded for the duration of the war.
Presumably the number of awards of the 1st grade was less than 100.
