German Orders and MedalsKingdom of Prussia

16 Prussia: Luisen - Order, cross 1st division.

The medal cross is silver - gold-plated and enamelled. On a beautiful, sewn original ladies' bow.

Stamped "W" mark of the court jewellers Wagner & Sohn, Berlin, on the lower arm of the cross.

In accordance with Kaiser Wilhelm II's decree of November 1916, all Prussian decorations were henceforth only to be made of gold-plated silver. This provision also included the highest Prussian orders, such as the Order of the Black Eagle and the Order of the Luisen, First Division, which was awarded exclusively to princesses and royalty.

A much worn splendid example in best jeweller's quality. Minor chips due to wear.

To my knowledge the only known original example of this order in silver-gilt version and far rarer than a piece made in gold.
