59 Spain - Order of San Fernando - 4th Class Breast Star.
This silver medal a separately applied medallion with a laurel wreath between the arms of the cross. Medallion and wreath feature gold and enamel craftsmanship. Reverse features the maker mark for the jeweler: "JOSE GOMEZ MADRID" as well as attachment hooks.
Magnificent specimen in the finest jeweler quality from the middle of the 19th century. The three-piece medallion with separately mounted holy figure in sculpted goldsmith craftsmanship. The background to the medallion features painted polychrome enamel. The laurel wreath is applied separately in gold and translucent enamel.
Very rare breast star of this highly respected Spanish military order.
This specimen was awarded on 20 September 1861 by Queen Isabella of Spain to a royal Prince of Bourbon of both Sicilies for his heroic actions in defending the fortress of Gaeta.
