Felt-covered leather helmet with ventilation screens on the sides. Visor and top made of patent leather.

On the front, the star of the Order of Merit of the Württemberg Crown is laid on in a particularly elegant, high and domed design. The medallion is gilded and enamelled in particularly fine quality.

Lining made of green silk ripstop with brown leather sweatband.

Originally formed from the Württemberg Snowshoe Company, the company was renamed the ‘Württemberg Mountain Company’ on 30 April.

It was divided into four platoons, with an MG platoon assigned to each. On 2 October 1915, it was expanded to six companies and henceforth referred to as the ‘Württembergisches Gebirgs-Bataillon’ (Württemberg Mountain Battalion). Finally, on 3 May 1918, the expanded formation was renamed the ‘Württembergisches Gebirgs-Regiment’ (Württemberg Mountain Regiment).

One of the most famous members of the Württemberg mountain troops was the later mountain troops general Hubert Lanz, who served in the regiment as a first lieutenant and regimental adjutant during the First World War.

Extraordinarily rare shako, one of the few original examples in officer's version.

From the collection of Karl Sauer, Jülich.
