Angolia describes this belt buckle as a special model for Reich Foreign Minister von Ribbentrop (see John R. Angolia, Belt Buckles & Brocades of the Third Reich, San Jose 1982, p. 161).

Other authors assume that this is the prototype of a belt buckle for senior SS leaders.
