"AL CAVALIERE MAURIZIANO LUIGI SCATI DI CASALEGGIO MAGGIOR GENERALE PER DIECI LUSTRI NELLA CARRIERA MILITARE BENEMERITO".

This decoration was instituted in 1839 and was awarded exclusively to generals with 50 years of service.

It was established parallel to the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus by King Charles Albert of Savoy by patent of March 29, 1839, to reward those officers of general rank who had completed fifty years of military service (years of service as commanding officer were counted double).

This decoration consisted of a large gold medal worn around the neck depicting Saint Maurice on horseback.

The examples from the period of the Kingdom of Sardinia, that is before the unification of Italy into a kingdom (1861), are of the greatest rarity and only a handful of examples have survived in private ownership.

Magnificent example of the greatest rarity.
