Karl Truppe (1887–1959) Karl Truppe was born in 1887 in Ebenthal, Carinthia, Austria. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, where he received the Prix de Rome in 1914. During his military service he worked as a war artist and created portraits of several generals as well as of Emperor Karl I of Austria. In 1938 he was appointed Professor of Fine Arts at the Academy in Dresden. His artistic work encompasses portraits, still lifes, landscapes and nudes as well as genre scenes.
