90 Österreich: Prunkdolch der österreichischen Kriegsmarine
Magnificent fire-gilded execution. The crossguard in the form of two dolphins. Triangular blade etched with ornaments, anchor and Imperial crown (slightly spotted). White grip with minor cracks. The fire-gilded scabbard with rich relief decoration, anchor, Imperial crown, paddles and paddle steamer. Together with a sword knot of gilt metal threads with green-white-red strands.
In the catalog of the Imperial and Royal Army Museum of 1903, the dagger is described as Model 1854. In the reference work “Die Seitenwaffen der österreichisch-ungarischen Kriegsmarine” by Erich Gabriel, an identical piece is described as an unidentified Austrian naval dagger. However, it may be a ceremonial execution for naval officers prior to Model 1849, when they were still permitted to wear daggers of their own choice.
Magnificent edged weapon of finest quality and great rarity.
