Naseral-Din Shah Qajar[2] (Persian: ناصرالدین&zwnjشاه قاجار‎; 16 July 1831 - 1 May1896), also Nassereddin Shah Qajar, was the Shah of Persia from 5 September1848 to 1 May 1896 when he was assassinated. He was the son of Mohammad ShahQajar and Malek Jahān Khānom and the third longest reigning monarch in Iranianhistory after Shapur II of the Sassanid dynasty and Tahmasp I of the SafavidDynasty. Nasser al-Din Shah had sovereign power for close to 50 years and wasalso the first modern Iranian monarch to formally visit Europe.
