275 Spektakulärer Chinesischer Säbel - Geschenk an S.K.H. Tommaso di Savoia Genova.

 The vessel silver with Chinese decoration of grapes and leaves. The pommel as a plastic dragon head. The handle made of exotic horn, at the bottom engraved silver ring with the coat of arms of the House of Savoy. Fluted single-edged blade with the love knot of the House of Savoy inlaid in gold and the dedication engraving: "TOMMASO DI SAVOJA". The scabbard made of dark precious wood with mother-of-pearl inlays in the form of leaf and flower ornaments with fittings made of silver with hand-chased Chinese mythical creatures and dragons in the finest Platonic quality. Tommaso dib Savoia - Genova (1854 - 1931) commanded the corvette "Vittor Pisani" from 1879 - 1881. He made voyages to Asia and South America and received numerous gifts of honor as a member of the Italian royal family. In 1883 he married Isabella von Wittelsbach. From 1875 to 1931 he was a senator of the Kingdom of Italy. During the 1st World War he held the post of Luogotenente Generale del Regno and was deputy to the King while he was at the front. Beautiful, impressive gift saber brought by Tommaso the Savoia from one of his trips to the Orient. It is highly probable that it was an imperial gift received during his visit to the court of the Emperor of China in Beijing. Total length: 94 cm.
