Lattimer book: Hitler and the Nazi Leaders...,1999, p.71. Provenance: John K. Lattimer Collection. Hollywood-ready - no other word could better describe the life and work of John Kingsley Lattimer (1914-2007). The physician became famous not only for his work as head of the urology department at the renowned Columbia University or for such prominent patients as Katharine Hepburn, Greta Garbo and Charles Lindbergh. It was primarily his fascination with historical objects and attention to detail that made him world famous. Lattimer collected, and he collected a lot - so much that the entire third floor of his Englewood mansion became a kind of museum, as the New York Times wrote in its obituary. The physician was fascinated with weapons as a boy - later deepened by his stint as an Army doctor during the invasion of Normandy in World War II, where he trained medical personnel and saved the lives of many U.S. soldiers. During the Nuremberg war crimes trials, Lattimer was responsible for the medical care of the accused. It is possible that he used this opportunity to obtain belongings of the prisoners. It was he who examined the body of Goering after his suicide, and he established the death of all those executed. In 1999, Lattimer published the book Hitler's Fatal Sickness and other Secrets of the Nazi Leaders. In it, he not only wrote about the care of the imprisoned and various medical examination results, but commented on Hitler's possible Parkinson's disease. One of the most important award certificates of Hermann Göring that has been offered at auction so far and a document of contemporary history of the utmost rarity.
