96 Elegant sword from the period of the Consulate or the 1st Empire.

 Thesword handle fire-gilt with arabesque decoration. The pommel as an eagle's head. Engraved mother-of-pearl grip scales. The guard with oak wreath medallion with lictor bundle, arrows and bow surrounded by cornucopias. Steel spring mechanism for folding on the back of the front guard.

Two-thirds of the fullered single-edged blade blued and with fine, partially gilded etched decoration. An illegible maker's signature on the ricasso on the front. Cleaned corroson marks on the lower quarter of the blade. Scabbard of fire-gilt bronze with finely engraved and chiselled arabesque decoration.

Magnificent and beautifully crafted sword of a high dignitary from the period of the French Consulate (1799-1804) or Premier Empire (1804-1815).
