 Breast star for the Grand Cross. Embroidered example from the period of the Napoleonic Wars  (1804 - 1815).

Silver, partially gilt metal thread and pailette embroidery. The medallion embroidered in fine silk threads with gilt order motto "FORTITUDINE" in silver lantern. The laurel wreath between the arms of the cross in fine silk embroidery with gilded metal threads. Remains of cover paper on the reverse.

The fabric of the star, which has become somewhat fragile due to frequent wear and age has been soaked in places with stabilising bone glue for conservation reasons.

Exceptionally rare breast star of this highest Austrian order of valour and military merit. Only a few privately owned examples known.
