German Orders and MedalsKingdom of Prussia

16 Pour le Mérite - Late 18th Century Neck Badge.

Gold and enamel. The ring is missing. The light blue enamel of the cross arms slightly domed. The crowned cipher "F" and the order's motto "Pour / le Mé / rite" laid into the enamel of the cross arms in gold foil. The letters are partially worn off but still clearly visible due to the depressions caused by the manufacturing process.

This piece is a very early example of the order dating from the Coalition Wars, respectively the Napoleonic Wars from the end of the 18th, respectively the beginning of the 19th century.

This is an original, i.e. officially awarded badge issued by the Chancellery of the Order. This cross was made by the court jewelers Daniel Baudesson et Fils, Berlin. Baudesson was the only official maker of Prussian orders at that time.

Much worn historical piece, on the back slight enamel damage due to wear. Overall in good condition especially measured by age.

Very rare, important Prussian piece of insignia from one of the greatest eras of German history.
