 Decoration in embroidered design from the period of the Ancien Regime. Embroidered example of gilded metal threads on red cloth backing. Reverse with original paper cover.

The Order of the Two Swords was the only decoration of the Ancien Regime that was adopted by the French Republic after the abolition of the Decoration Militaire (former Order of St. Louis and Ordre de Mérite Militaire). Although it was never officially abolished, it was no longer awarded in the Directoire (after November 1795).

Very beautiful and extremely rare design in absolute top condition of which only very few examples are known.
