German Orders and MedalsDuchy of Brunswick

3 Order of Henry the Lion: Officer's Cross with Swords, 1909 - 1918.

Silver - gilt and enamelled, reverse fitted with pin. The center medallion in finest enamel painting with translucent red enamel background. The enamel of the arms of the cross in light blue.

The order cross and the swords are die struck in one piece.

Outstanding original example of the greatest rarity.

The Officer's Cross with Swords for War Merit (golden swords) was awarded only twice, in 1908 to the Major in the Schutztruppe in German East Africa Johannes Kurt and in 1909 to the Royal Saxon Major and Wing Adjutant of the King of Saxony Hans Meister.

Our example, undoubtedly made by Court Jewellers Siebrecht, i.e. before 1912, shows slight traces of wear and is one of these two original examples awarded.

One of the rarest Brunswick orders and particularly interesting as a war decoration and of great significance for the history of the order.
