56 Order of the Legion of Honour: 1st Empire 3rd Type Officer's Cross.

 Gold and enamel. On the beautiful, long original ribbon of fine moiré silk with sewn ribbon bow.

The medallions made in two separate parts. French gold hallmark (rooster's head, 1809-1819) in the fluted ring.

This piece is a specimen of the 1st type with the small version Napoleon's head. It was adapted to a 3rd type after the introduction of the crown. The white enamel of the arms of the cross is completely original and shows only minor chipping and hairline cracks. One leaf of the laurel wreath broken off, but overall a very nice and well preserved example.

Rare in this condition.
