Wolfgang Fischer (* 11 December 1888 in Carolath; † 1 February 1943 in Sbikka, Tunisia) was a German general in the armoured forces in World War II.

Fischer joined the 5th Lower Silesian Infantry Regiment No. 154 in Jauer on 18 March 1910 as a Fahnenjunker.

With the outbreak of the First World War, he was transferred to the Landwehr Infantry Regiment No. 7 on 2 August 1914, with whom Fischer was deployed as a platoon and company commander on the Eastern Front. From 1 November 1915 to 8 October 1917, he then served as adjutant of the 3rd Landwehr Division. He was then transferred as adjutant to the 22nd Landwehr Infantry Brigade, where Fischer remained beyond the end of the war.

After demobilisation, he joined the Volunteer Battalion 15. On 10 September 1919, he was transferred to the Provisional Reichswehr and assigned to the Reichswehr Rifle Regiment 58. In February 1920, he was transferred to the 12th Infantry Regiment, which he left again in September of the same year. On 27 September 1920, Fischer was assigned to the 3rd (Prussian) Infantry Regiment in Deutsch-Eylau, where he served as regimental adjutant from 1923 to 1927 and then as chief of the 14th Company until 31 January 1929. In the same capacity, he then took over the 7th Company of the 6th Infantry Regiment in Eutin until 30 September 1934.

On 1 October 1934, he was appointed battalion commander in Infantry Regiment 46, which he led for the next three years until his transfer to the regimental staff of Infantry Regiment 69 of the 20th Infantry Division (mot.). On 4 February 1938 he was appointed its commander.

After the outbreak of the Second World War, he led the regiment in the attack on Poland. Appointed commander of the 10th Rifle Brigade (as part of the 10th Panzer Division) on 27 October 1939, he subsequently led it in the Western campaign. For the achievements of his brigade during the campaign, Fischer was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on 3 June 1940. After the end of the fighting in France, his brigade remained as an occupation force. With the start of the Eastern campaign, Fischer's brigade advanced as part of the 10th Panzer Division with Army Group Centre via Dęblin, Bug, Slonim and Jelnja, where it first had to be refreshed after its losses. Here Fischer was appointed commander of the division on 2 August 1941, replacing his predecessor Lieutenant General Ferdinand Schaal. Under Fischer's command, the division took part in the following double battle at Vyazma and Bryansk as well as in the advance on Moscow. After the failure of the offensive, the division retreated to the Greater Gshatsk area.

In May 1942, the division was transferred out of the Eastern Front to France for refreshment. There it was assigned to the Afrika Korps in November 1942 and transferred to Tunisia. Here Fischer was awarded the Oak Leaves to the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross for leading his division on 9 December 1942. He had already been awarded the German Cross in Gold on 22 April 1942. In the African theatre of war, Fischer's division took part in Rommel's advance and the subsequent defensive battles as part of the 5th Panzer Army. During a reconnaissance mission at the Mareth position on 1 February 1943, Fischer's vehicle ran into a minefield. There his driver hit a mine, whereupon the vehicle exploded. Friedrich von Broich took over the command of the division after Fischer's death.

Very rare uniform jacket in tropical design.
