241 Fine case for a ball tablet with a portrait of Empress Maria Theresa.

Extremely finely crafted fire-gilded black enamel box (dance card container) with floral bouquets inlaid in gold and mother-of-pearl. Inscription inlaid on both sides of the lid: "Souvenir".

The front lid hinged up, under it finely executed portrait miniature of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria in black mourning robe. In the background the Hungarian St. Stephen's crown and the Austrian princely hat.

Inside lid with fine red silk lining. Side lid removable with compartment for former ball tablet and removable small pencil. Lid lightly chipped, but overall very nicely preserved.

Highly interesting and with the portrait of the empress very unusual object, probably from the direct environment of Empress Maria Theresa.
